Spotting job scams
Recruitment scams target tradespeople because the work is real, urgent, and often arranged fast. Here is what to watch for.
SkaiApply will never
- Ask you to pay anything to apply, interview, or get hired
- Ask for your bank details, SSN, or ID before a real written offer
- Ask you to buy your own tools or equipment through a specific vendor to start
- Send you a cheque and ask you to forward part of it on
- Conduct the entire hiring process over text with no call and no site visit
Applying here is free. It always will be. If anything contradicts that, it is not us.
Red flags in a listing or message
- Pay that is far above the going rate for the trade with no explanation
- An offer made with no interview and no questions about your experience
- Pressure to decide immediately or 'the spot goes to someone else'
- A contact who won't do a phone call or give a company address
- Requests to move the conversation to a personal messaging app right away
- Any request for money, gift cards, or crypto at any stage
Seen something wrong?
Report it and we will look at it. Employers are verified before their listings go live, but no check catches everything, and a report from someone in the trade is usually the fastest signal we get.
